2025.10.08 2025 NCKU SoC x BAIR Summer Program and Attending International Academic Events Sharing Session

This student sharing session has concluded successfully. In addition to inviting six students who participated in the BAIR Summer Program, two students who received college subsidy to present papers abroad were also invited to share their experiences.

🗣️ Dean's Address: Broaden Your Horizons, Make the Most of Resources

The event commenced with dean Shen addressing the students, encouraging them to leverage NCKU's academic and international exchange resources actively. He emphasized, “We should understand what researchers at top global universities are focusing on and pursuing,” urging students to look beyond their immediate coursework and broaden their horizons to contemplate the possibilities for their research and future development.

🎓 Sharing Highlights of BAIR Summer Program Students

Six students traveled to the United States during the summer to participate in a remote innovation program organized by the Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research (BAIR) Lab. They shared their experiences and insights gained during the program:

Lu, MS Degree Program in Intelligent Technology Systems

Reflecting on his experience at BAIR, Lu emphasizes two defining aspects: “high-frequency communication and an early-stage try-and-error culture.” This approach taught him that research should not wait for perfection before beginning.

Shen, MS Degree Program in Intelligent Technology Systems

Sharing three key concepts: Discussion, Decomposition, and Interaction. These form the core of effective learning and innovative collaboration.

Yang, MS Degree Program in Intelligent Technology Systems

Offered a thought-provoking statement: “Tech problems need non-tech answers,” reminding us that research doesn't need to be large in scale—what matters is that it holds meaningful and genuine value.

Chen, MS Degree Program in Intelligent Computing

Emphasized that the greatest growth in sharing comes from learning problem-solving skills and the ability to pause and think from experts, noting that cross-disciplinary exchanges bring many fresh stimuli and inspirations.

Tsai, Institute of Medical Informatics

Under the theme “How to Be a Fast Learner?”, Tsai emphasized that asking questions proactively and hands-on practice are the best ways to learn quickly.

Zheng, MS Degree Program in Intelligent Computing

This experience prompted him to make a decision: To pursue doctoral studies. He observed, “Good researchers don't necessarily have to create new theories, but they must possess a solid theoretical foundation and strong problem-analysis skills.” He expressed special gratitude to Dr. CHAN Ching-Yao of BAIR, former Dean Su, and all the faculty members from SOC who made the program possible.

🌐 Reflections on Students' Overseas Conference Presentations

The next two students, both recipients of college funding to present papers at international conferences, shared their observations and takeaways from the events:

Lin, MS Degree Program in Intelligent Technology Systems

The greatest takeaway from this trip abroad was gaining a grasp of the cutting-edge trends in his research field, while also clearly seeing “what issues researchers in the same field are focusing on.”

Zhou, MS Degree Program in Intelligent Technology Systems

Emphasizing that the most crucial aspect of presenting abroad is remaining open-minded, and extend her sincere gratitude to her advisor professor, the faculty, and every teacher who had helped make this opportunity possible.

👩‍🏫 Teacher Feedback and Encouragement

Teachers were also invited to share their observations and words of encouragement:

Prof. Shao-Man Lee

Encourage students to seize every learning opportunity and continuously cultivate their passion and resilience for research.

Prof. Chao-Hung Wang

Remind students: “Continue to maintain the space and opportunities for overseas interactions, allowing these connections to become part of your long-term development.”

🌟 Dean's Closing Remarks and Encouragement: The 4 H's

As the event drew to a close, Dean Shen once again encouraged all participating students: On your academic and life journeys, remember these four H's:

Stay Humble, Honest, Humorous, and Hard-working.

May every student maintain a humble and honest attitude, keep a sense of humor, strive forward, continuously broaden their horizons, and embrace more challenges.
