International exchange is one of the important development directions of SoC in order to educate elites with expertise in cross-domain system integration, research and development, and practical implementation of intelligent computing. Based on the well-established international cross-disciplinary education and research environment of NCKU, SoC promotes international exchange through the following programs.
International Recruitment
In order to enrich the capacity of Taiwan's intellectual computing researchers and introduce international research and innovation, SoC is actively recruiting faculty and researchers from all over the world. Starting from the preparatory period in 2019, the institute will hold an annual overseas recruitment seminar. Currently, three faculty members have joined MICC, including Prof. Shao-Man Lee, who just received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and Prof. Masahiro Hamano, who has a rich research and teaching experience in the field of discrete mathematics, and four more faculty members are expected to join the faculty in 2021. The School is currently in discussion with two research experts.
Cross-country and Cross-domain System Integration and Degree Affiliation
SoC facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and Kagawa Institute of Technology (KIT), which is expected to increase NCKU students' hands-on experience and exchange opportunities with Japanese students.
NCKU and Kagawa Institute of Technology have been cooperating in five areas, including student exchange program, scholar visit program, collaborative course and laboratory program, collaborative research and technology development program, and other industry-academia cooperation related programs. Among these programs, the collaborative course and research program has already begun preparations, including cross-country joint lectures and internships for practical robotics teaching, and cross-country cooperation for bachelor's degree extension (transfer). Kagawa High School is well known in the robotics field for its education in robotics manufacturing, and has participated in robotics competitions for 23 years since 1999, winning 9 championships and 7 runner-up prizes, and its 2007 entry was awarded the Prime Minister's Prize at “日本ものづくり大賞”.
Cross-country and Cross-domain Programs
In November 2020, SoC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Information Systems Technology and Design Pillar of Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), the world's first research and engineering university to integrate design and innovation into research and engineering, to develop cross-disciplinary programs and courses. SUTD is the first university in the world to integrate design and innovation into research and engineering, with a focus on cross-disciplinary teaching and exchange with other university programs.
Research Centers for System Integration Across Countries and Academic Regions Join Forces
Intelligent computing is a global trend, and in the field of academic research, research institutions have been complementing each other through international cooperation for many years. The research center of SoC plans to cooperate with top academic institutions in related fields overseas to develop cross-country and cross-domain educational cooperation on the one hand, to give students an international vision and stage, and on the other hand, to carry out cutting-edge academic research, to realize the vision of solving practical problems by applying forward-looking computational technologies, and to bring a positive impact and value to the society and the world.
International Symposium
The development of intelligent computing is changing the content and type of education, and will expand to every industry, every field, and even people's lifestyles in the future. SoC organizes Workshop on Future Computing (WFC) and Summer Summit every year to gather experts and scholars from industries, government, and academia around the world to explore the development, breakthroughs, latest applications, and future outlook of intelligent computing, and to stimulate the exchange and cooperation of the participating teams. The conference will also stimulate mutual exchanges and cooperation among the participating teams.
